CHARITY UPDATE FEBRUARY 2023

Can’t quite believe where 2022 went, but the goods news is that The Wish Tree Charity continues to be active and available to support villagers in 2023.

Firstly, we want to start with a massive thank you to all of you who came to support us at all our small fundraising events in 2022 but more recently at our two events in December.

The Jumping Fleas (despite many members being struck down with illness) provided a fabulous, lively evening of music at the Spotted Dog in December and helped us raise £120 for which we are very grateful.

The Spotted Dog also hosted a festive evening of carols outdoors with brass accompaniment provided by the Wells family and Will Coulter, aka ‘The Von Crapps’ on 23rd December. This was another great evening for all ages and was well supported despite the damp, cold conditions which were held off by gazebos and mulled wine organised by the Spotted Dog. We are pleased to say this enabled us to raise a fantastic sum of £320 - look out for this event again Christmas 2023!

The collecting tin in the Village Store provides a steady flow of donations and was recently emptied to provide another £27.

We are very grateful for all the on-going support from the village and businesses alike and you can be assured that all these monies go direct to helping residents.

Secondly, we are organising a fundraising quiz on 1st March at 7.30 pm at The Three Blackbirds pub. The event will be advertised via the Grapevine, posters and social media but please start thinking about getting your teams together and let us know if you would like to enter. There will be a small raffle too so if you have any unwanted gifts or items you wish to donate, then please do get in touch - details below…….

We do endeavour to seek out residents that need help but being only a small team, we continue to rely on villagers/organisations to keep us informed of residents who may need our support in times of ill health, surgery and bereavement.  Please do remember to make contact with us via info@thewishtreecharity.co.uk or leave a message on 07799 607320/07976 867910. Equally, if you are interested in helping out with the charity, then we would love to hear from you.

Here are two testimonials from residents we have recently helped:

"The Wish Tree do what all of us want to do for each other when there’s a crisis - shore things up, fill in the gaps, make it better, in whatever way we can. Pride can often stop those we so desperately want to help from accepting support, so having The Wish Tree as a go between keeps everything private, whether giving or receiving.  They helped my family years ago when we suffered a devastating family bereavement, and they’ve helped again recently as we continue to navigate the long-lasting emotional impact of that experience. I say ‘they’ but I should say ‘we’, because The Wish Tree is all of us, being there for each other when it matters, because we genuinely care.  Knowing that, the moral support I’ve felt has been profound. I remain forever grateful."

"I was very ill during 2021-2022. As a family with 3 young kids, it was very difficult to manage with the daily life and duties. We cannot express our gratitude enough to Tracy and The Wish Tree team. When Tracy heard about my illness, she appeared on our door and sorted everything out. We were amazed by the willingness to give and to help. We couldn’t have managed without it. The Wish Tree Charity helped with pick up for the kids, dog walking and so much more."
