TRUSTEES AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The Wish Tree Charity is run and administered by 5 volunteer Trustees. They are assisted by volunteer committee members who attend regular meetings with the Trustees, help with specific tasks and at fundraising events.

STEVE EVANS

Chairperson

Unlike my colleagues working within the Wish Tree Charity , I cannot claim to have been a resident within the village for numerous years, in fact, I moved into the village in June 2023 along with my wife Mandy.  However, in that short period of time, we have been taken by how friendly the village is, how supportive people are to others in the village, and how welcome we have been made to feel as newcomers.

The Wish Tree Charity seems to epitomise this, and I am therefore delighted to be able to join the charity as Chair to help it continue with the wonderful work that it does.  I will rely heavily on my fellow Trustees and Committee members as I become more aware of the help it can offer but I know this is help I can rely on.

Mandy and I have three children, all who have flown the nest some time ago and who have given us four grandchildren to date, with the fifth due this summer.  Whilst still working within a local building company, I do find time to enjoy the benefits of living within the village, frequenting the pubs and taking advantage of the many opportunities to socialise and support local events as well as taking advantage of the many miles of footpaths on our doorstep. I am a lover of sport, rugby in particular, although age has restricted that passion to being a spectator rather than a participant.

I look forward to working within the charity in the village and becoming more involved in persuading you to help support us in the work that we do.

ALI MOSS

Treasurer

I’m Alison Moss. I’ve lived in Flamstead for 25 years with my husband, our two daughters and our much loved Golden Retriever.  I originally come from Norwich and moved with work to Northampton and then to Flamstead for an easy commute to my job in Moorgate.

I joined the Wish Tree to support the original trustees during a music festival several years ago, and I’m now proud to be the Treasurer.  My role is to administer the funds we raise and pay bills for the help we provide to residents.  Along with the other trustees, we collectively make decisions when a resident asks for help and we allocate resources to assist them.

In my spare time I like walking and running in the countryside around the village, volunteering with Riding for the Disabled and spending time with family and friends.

ROSIE HICKEY-COLMAN

Trustee

Originally from  Cambridge, I have lived in Flamstead with my husband Gavin for 12 years now having previously lived in Harpenden and St Albans. Our three daughters and young grand-daughter all live nearby.

For most of my career, I worked in education as a secondary school teacher (ICT) in several different schools in Hertfordshire, having previously worked in IT.  I have now left the world of work and have been enjoying extensive travelling, both in the UK and overseas, hiking, learning to play golf and trying to keep fit. I have also embraced my new grandmother duties with delight and can now be seen with a pushchair in the village and chasing a toddler around the park.

I have been a trustee for the charity since 2020 and feel that being part of the Wish Tree is a great opportunity to help the local community in which I live.

CAROLINE FREER

Trustee

I am Caroline and I have lived in Flamstead with my husband and 2 daughters since 1998.  We moved here to have a more rural environment to bring up the children and so my husband could easily commute into the City.   I used to work in the travel business in many interesting places overseas.  Since living in Flamstead we have continued to travel extensively in the holidays with our adventurous daughters.  In 2006 I started work as the Parish Clerk which brought me into contact with an interesting variety of councillors, as well as so many of the groups, societies and clubs in the village.  Helping to improve the services and facilities in Flamstead and encouraging village engagement were very important themes of my work.  I have just retired and suddenly find myself with a bit of free time (occasionally!), so  I was very honoured to be asked to be a Trustee for the Wish Tree Charity. It is such a worthy charity, working in the heart of family lives, making a difference to people when they may be at their lowest ebb.  I clearly remember their first event in the Village School, many years ago – what a night that was!  With the music festivals, quizzes, Scarecrow Café – all their fund raising efforts are always organised with such professionalism and aplomb, culminating in this years’ Marathon run by Henry Biggs.  I am very privileged to be part of the team.

In my spare time I enjoy gardening, cultivating my allotment, studying Spanish and learning upholstery and furniture restoration.

GILLIAN BIGGS

Secretary

I have lived in Flamstead for over 20 years, moving out of west London as I had started my family and wanted a more relaxed lifestyle such as a village to bring up children.  I am married to Matthew and have 3 children, Jessica, Henry & Chloe.

I decided to join the Wish Tree team as they have helped me personally in the past.  I am hard working and give 100% to all I do.  I am looking forward to being involved in this great charity.
