TRUSTEES AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The Wish Tree Charity is run and administered by 5 volunteer Trustees. They are assisted by volunteer committee members who attend regular meetings with the Trustees, help with specific tasks and at fundraising events.

Although we moved into Flamstead in June 2023, some three years later we are still known as one of the “Newcomers”. When one passes from being a newcomer to being more established

residents, I have yet to find out as there does not seem to be a consensus as to when this should be! Whatever the title, we are delighted to be in the village and the past three years have only built on our initial reaction that it is a wonderful place to live.

The range of events that the village holds, and the quality of those events, is quite extraordinary for such a relatively small village, We feel extremely lucky to be involved in such a friendly welcoming place.

I firmly believe that we cannot expect to have such a range of services and events without making the effort to contribute towards them and the harsh reality is, if we do not support things

within the village, be it the pubs, the shop and the whole range of events that are held, then the old adage of “use it or lose it” will surely apply and only be to the detriment of us all.

As part of this contribution, whilst doing my best to support things in the village (especially the pubs!!) I was delighted to have the opportunity to become involved with the Wish Tree Charity and have now been its Chair and one of the Trustees for coming up to 2 years. The opportunity to help fellow villagers who have hit a speed bump on life’s tricky journey has been humbling and the chance to work with such a wonderful team of trustees and officers in providing that support to residents, makes you realise how much good is being done out there in a very unassuming way.

I am looking forward to the next 12 months of my involvement with The Wish Tree and would urge anyone who wants to find out more about what we do or how you might be able to help us,

ALI MOSS

Treasurer

I’m Alison Moss. I’ve lived in Flamstead for 25 years with my husband, our two daughters and our much loved Golden Retriever. I originally come from Norwich and moved with work to Northampton and then to Flamstead for an easy commute to my job in Moorgate.

I joined the Wish Tree to support the original trustees during a music festival several years ago, and I’m now proud to be the Treasurer. My role is to administer the funds we raise and pay bills for the help we provide to residents. Along with the other trustees, we collectively make decisions when a resident asks for help and we allocate resources to assist them.

In my spare time I like walking and running in the countryside around the village, volunteering with Riding for the Disabled and spending time with family and friends.

ROSIE HICKEY-COLMAN

I have been a village resident for 13 years now, and a trustee of the charity for the last 6 years. I live with my husband in Flamstead with regular visits from our three daughters and granddaughter who live in St Albans.

I have been retired from work for the last few years, having had two separate careers. One was working in IT and the second teaching ICT in several different secondary schools in Hertfordshire. Since retiring, I've been enjoying lots of travel and adventures overseas, learning new skills such as Italian and have more recently taken up golf which is still a skill I have yet to conquer! I have embraced being a grandmother for the first time, and really enjoy time spent with this youngest member of our family.

Being part of the Wish Tree Charity has been a great way of getting involved in and helping my local community and it's been a pleasure to work with such a group of dedicated and committed team members over the years.

CAROLINE FREER

I was very honoured to be asked to be a Trustee for the Wish Tree Charity soon after I retired from being the Parish Clerk in 2024, a role I had enjoyed for 18 years.

It is such a thoroughly worthwhile charity, working in the heart of family lives, making a difference to people when they may be at their lowest ebb. I clearly remember their first fund raising event, a music festival, in the Village School, many years ago – what a night that was! With the music festivals, quizzes, Village Show Café – all its fund raising efforts are always organised with such professionalism and aplomb, as is the new fixture in Flamstead's social calendar - the Christmas Fun Run.

I am very privileged to be part of the Wish Tree's dynamic team under the wonderful stewardship of Steve Evans, the Chairman.

In my spare time I enjoy gardening, cultivating my allotment, studying Spanish and dabbling in upholstery and furniture restoration.

I have lived in Flamstead for over 20 years, moving out of west London as I had started my family and wanted a more relaxed lifestyle such as a village to bring up children. I am married to Matthew and have 3 children, Jessica, Henry & Chloe.

I decided to join the Wish Tree team as they have helped me personally in the past. I am hard working and give 100% to all I do. I am looking forward to being involved in this great charity.
