CHARITY UPDATE JANUARY 2024
January 2024
Dear Villagers,
We hope you have had a lovely time over the festive period and wish you all a Happy New Year.
First of all, we would like you to ‘save the date’ for our next Quiz Night fundraiser which is to be held on Thursday 21st March at 7.30pm at the Three Blackbirds pub. Please get planning on your teams (maximum 8 members) at the cost of £3 per person. More information will follow via social media and the Grapevine including availability of food options. The quiz itself will aim to start at 8.00pm. There will be a raffle during the evening, so if you have any unwanted Christmas gifts, donations or items for a hamper, we would be most grateful to receive them. Please contact us if you have anything you wish to donate or to register your team by emailing us at info@thewishtreecharity.co.uk
We have continued to be proactive in offering help to residents over the last few months and have offered help to 19 residents since Sept 2023. We are currently actively helping three residents/families with transport, childcare and cleaning and have provided assistance transporting residents to hospital or medical appointments when the volunteer drivers are unable to do so. We were also able to help a few residents at the end of last year who were affected by the cost of living crisis, by using a donation for this purpose kindly given by John Lewis.
We continue to be in a good financial position to support residents in times of ill health, surgery and bereavement, so please do continue to bring people to our attention that you know or hear of that may benefit from our help and support. Requests are not means tested and all help given is confidential.
Please see below testimonials from two families we have recently helped:
“As we grow older, we learn the hard way that Life does not deal a fair hand. My hand over the last few years, no matter how many times I’ve shuffled the deck, has included: parental care, parental illness, physical injury, family bereavement, social care, fraternal care, financial hardship, stress-related medical conditions ... to be honest, I would have just preferred an ‘ace high royal flush’.
Like many of us, I suspect my pride struggles with offers of help, but it is just that - pride. Through all this, the wonderful Wish Tree Charity has made respectful, confidential and diplomatic offers of help and support which I have gratefully accepted. We are extremely fortunate to have such a charity in our village and I cannot thank them enough for embracing myself and my family.
Please consider The Wish Tree Charity when you are asked for donations, or when making or altering your wills. If you cannot offer financial assistance perhaps you could volunteer your time in a manner that suits them.”

“My husband was diagnosed on the Wednesday and by Friday, The Wish Tree Charity got in touch as one of the mums from the school had contacted them. They arranged a nanny and a cleaner to help me, which was a godsend as having 3 young children, times were quite emotional! I can’t thank them enough for the help and support given by The Wish Tree Charity during one of the hardest times a family could face."
